Frequently Asked Questions
The way I see it, my job is to understand, and create a design that reflects your goals, personality, lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. I will also take cues from your house itself and nature/the outdoors to create a unique and refreshingly stylish space that feels perfectly you. All to say, the space(s) I design for you will be far more you than me – as it should be!
The project binder is a Twin Oaks Interiors specialty: this is where my experience in project management and finance makes a big difference. It is a perfectly organized, complete library of your project’s documents, budget, contracts, drawings, appliance specifications and installation details– a one-stop resource for you and the contractor before, during and after the project.
Though I will happily swoop in at the eleventh hour, the answer to this question is ‘as early as possible’. The sooner you consider design the better, as small tweaks can make a big difference when it comes to functionality.
That can vary a lot. A design can be created and finishes chosen in as little as four weeks – but the actual arrival of materials can take months (especially right now with extended lead times thanks to COVID). Very early on we will discuss and map out a timeline so you have a clear idea of the timing and sequence of your project so that we can coordinate the construction and installation phases accordingly.
Though I do have a (home-based) studio, I consider myself a mobile designer and almost always provide fixture and finish presentations in your home. In addition to being convenient for you, it allows you to see materials ‘in situ’ which is important in order to get an accurate feel for how they’ll look in your home.
Absolutely! You can hire me for a consultation for this very purpose. We can meet with your real estate agent at the home you’re considering, talk through options and ballpark the investment required so you have the knowledge and information you need to pull the trigger (or not!) with confidence.
